I have heard about some churches who don't mind. They have a come as you are policy and invite all people to come: homeless, substance abusers, anybody who needs to.
Others I'm sure would prefer people to dress a little less casually. I think it shows lack of respect for the circumstances, like wearing jeans to a dressy occasion. Common sense doesn't seem to prevail in this situation with some people.

Traditionalists would probably say no but I think God cares more about a person's heart than about what they are wearing. If a person goes to church and receives the word of God, that is a good thing even in shorts. If God doesn't like it, he is more than capable of convicting those people of it. It is more likely that God doesn't really care about such things. People are the ones who come up with such rules. There isn't a dresscode in the Bible and if there was we would all be wearing old fashioned robes all the time.

Our church is very casual and doesn't have a defined dress code; even our pastor wears jeans. For the most part, people dress well. I will admit that there have been a few girls who've worn some questionable attire, but I suppose the real purpose of attending church is to focus on the message and not worry about what others are wearing.

it depends upon how far along they are in their faith. New Christians kinda dont know better yet, more mature ones do know better. Just be supportive of anyone willing to accept Jesus. This is a blessing. God really doesnt care what we look like or wear as long as we believe in Him. Have the same tolerance Jesus did for all the prostitutes and tax collectors. If it bothers you i would suggest praying over it, and then approach the individuals as a brother or sister in Christ, definitely ask for Holy Spirit to lead you in this one, and maybe in a low key kind of way explain how that may be a temptation for other members of the church to dress that way. We dont want to be leading eachother into sin. Make sure you arm yourself with the Holy Spirit first. :-)

Yes! They are there--that's what counts. A church shouldn't turn anyone away for something like this, and it might be your only opportunity to witness to this person. God wants them in heaven with him--shorts or not!

Yes, but tastefully. They are there to worship, not be in a fashion show. If people judge others because of what they wear to church, then they aren't true Christians.

I don't think it is a matter of "allowed" but more a matter of "poor taste" and "poor judgment". Someone should politely suggest the appropriate wear of clothes for church functions. Casual is fine, but not shorts.

Absolutely! God has already seen us naked in the shower before church, so we're not impressing him. Otherwise, we are dressing for other people who make up rules for us.
