I need some great metaphors, and the reasons why they relate. It can be from things, politics, literature, computers, issues, etc. Thanks

The greatest historical use of metaphors was, according to many scholars, by Jesus. Perhaps the greatest of these is the parable of the Seed and the Sower.
If you recall, Jesus likened the spreading of the Gospel to the sower who cast seed on four different types of soil:
stony ground=hard heart
weedy ground=Word choked out by the cares of the world
shallow ground=quick growth, no staying power in times of trial
fertile soil=Word is established and bears fruit
Like most of Jesus' metaphors, the practical application extends far beyond the boundaries of the original subject. This is a lesson for anyone attempting to communicate with their fellow man. Whether or not we succeed depends in a large part on the heart condition of the recipient.
Anyone that has participated in Yahoo Answers for any length of time is painfully aware of this reality.

I really like Marc Anthony's metaphor in his song "Barco a La Deriva" (Boat Adrift) from his album "Libre" (Free). It's about a woman whose heart is full of agony and she is drifting away from him.

I like inexplicable metaphors like:
dumb as a box of rocks...
bag of hair
pile of hammers
Or, busy as a 1-legged man in an azz kickin' contest
or, nervous as a long-tail cat in a room fulla rockin' chairs.
