Would it matter if I ran across the road and stole something to drink, and if it does, to whom does it matter and why?

It doesn't matter to me.

It might matter to the merchant, losing inventory and money. If you didn't get away with it, it would start mattering right quick.

Well if you run across the stree and steel something to drink I think that the guy running the store would care, and thus the policeman that would be called. And yes it matters because it doesnt belong to you, you did not buy it and therefore you are not have the rights to it. If you cant do the time, for a damn drink, I suggest that you dont do the crime. Not worth it.

Your action would have consequences. When you steal anything you steal a part of somebodies life. They sacrificed time to make the thing you stole and you took it without giving something in return. You deprive others of the ability to look after themselves but in doing so you expose a flaw in your claim that you no longer care about yourself. Stealing is a totally selfish act which posits the self as the most important thing to the detriment of everything else. To elevate the self to such importance shows that you care nothing for others but care deeply about yourself.

yes it matters... people worked hard to make that drink and sell it...going over there and stealing it effects others...and if you do at once and don't get caugt you'll get confident and do it again with something of more value and so on and you will eventually get caught and be punished

If you no longer care about yourself, why do you care to steal? You thirst, you have desire, you care about your own needs.
Secondly, if you don't care about others, including societal constructs, you first wouldn't even see your action as stealing and second, wouldn't have any qualms or concerns about it.
Therefore, you care about others.
As such, your first question is proved invalid by your second question. You care about yourself and others.

yes it would matter. You are not the universe. Others must be considered. The other guy counts for something and probably more than you.

it would only matter, to me, if the drink belonged to someone that was suffering from greater thirst than your own, merely because i haven't wholly shaken off the ethicality imposed upon me, in my socialisations.
