If ure referring to the band,The name AC/DC was invented by Angus and Malcolm Young's sister Margaret. It comes from the letters AC/DC (Alternating Current/Direct Current) on the back of their mother’s sewing machine.

In regards to the band. Angus saw it on the back of an amplifier as he was going onstage during a battle of the bands. When asked what their bands name was (they hadn't come up with one but were looking for a word that meant power) he told the announcer AC/DC.

Depends on who your asking...

To an electrition...it means "Alternating Current / Direct Current" (i.e. electrictity versues batteries).
