No i think of you're way off frequently speaking conservatives have confidence in replace with a good purpose while liberal coverage seems to be replace for the sake of replace Conservatives have confidence in individual liberty and private accountability and fostering an ecosystem the place human beings can gain fairly than forcing them into dependence i understand open minded liberals yet I there arent many authentic liberals left- the activists and politicians making use of the liberal label are fairly leftists and there's a great distinction

Your basic answer is Republicans are conservative, and Democrats lean to the middle and are Liberal. Republicans are for big business and Capitalism, for the rich (Supply side Economics) the trickle down theory. Democrats believe in free trade, and in the people as a whole all of them rich and poor alike. Democrats believe in the Constitution and Bill of Rights as it is written. When Abraham Lincoln broke away from the Southern Republicans of his day, and wrote the Emancipation Proclamation "It stated the this was for the people, by the people" Things have changed in the party's, and this what Democrats believe today.

I've already earned 10 points once before by providing this answer to this kind of question, so don't pick me for best answer. I just want more people to see this.

In "The Federal Courts, Politics, and the Rule of Law," by John C. Hughes (published 1995), it says:

"In the contemporary political context, those who fear conformity have tended to describe themselves as liberal and have tended to applaud judicial 'protection' of human rights. Those who fear diversity have tended to call themselves conservatives and have been appalled by judicial 'usurpation' of the majority's discretion to form the kind of community it finds most conducive to its own happiness. The former tends to approve of the expansive theories of constitutional interpretation, while the latter tends to prefer the restrained theories of judicial review. These alignments are neither perfect nor inevitable, but the debate has surely been shrill."

Basically, conservatives want to either keep things the way they are (Conservatives), or move backwards (Reactionaries). Liberals want to move things forward, either moderately (Moderates), or progressively (Progressives). By things, I mean laws, political systems, or economics. Those who want to destroy our economic and legal system are usually referred to as Radicals. The reason they want to destroy it is either to replace it with something they feel is better, or replace it with anarchy (Anarchists).

I guess the first answerer missed your added details.
The fact is, both liberals AND conservatives want what's best for our country...they just have a different version of what's better.
Here is a sample of what liberals tend to believe:
Pro-ACLU
Pro-Choice
Pro-Affirmative Action
Anti-Patriot Act
Anti-war in Iraq
Pro-Same Sex Marriage
Here is a sample of what conservatives tend to believe:
ACLU is discriminatory.
Abortion is murder.
Affirmative Action is racist.
The Patriot Act is necessary.
The war in Iraq is necessary.
Homosexuality is wrong. Period.

Now there are some that cross the board on some or all of those issues, and others that take a more moderate stance. That is just SOME of the beliefs, as far as hot issues go. But I think you get the idea.
