How can I build a mailing list for free, SPAM FREE?

I try many things but didn't work, can someone tell me how can I do this with on a Zero Budget?

I have 2 suggestions:
1) Networking: call everyone you know, let them know what you are doing, and see if they will provide you with the names and addresses of their friends. Contact as many people as is feasible and you should build a good foundation. Send advertising packets to this foundation and ask them to distribute them to friends and coworkers. This is a grass roots method, it is slow, but it is cheap.
2) The good old telephone book. It is full of confirmed names and addresses. You can purchase mail-mergeable databases of telephone directories, but that costs money. You can just pick one up and get typing if you want cheap.

What business are you in?
You should plan how can you give people something for free, so they will ask you to send them an email. Then as a part of a free newsletter you add you advertisement. Eg. - I'm managing a painting and decorating company - we organising now 10 tutorials in decorating and choosing colour. If you want to receive it - you should sign up and you then will receive on lesson every second day.

You can also run a genue competition. iPods always work well and for $100 you can get quite a large mailing list. Make it genue - give away something, take that person't photo and place on your website. He/she will tell everyone about you!!!

Ask people to fill in a questionnaire. It's good for you, as it will allow you to see who's your customers are, what age, what income, etc. You can then ask for their email address and permission to send them an information / contact about special offers etc. Never send emails without this permission!

In you newsletter and a cleat unsubscribe system - if someone don't want to receive your emails let them go. They are very unlikely to become your customers anyways, so why bother?
