I can not find any good info about breeding plecos. I have searched the web and only found two items and they were really not helpful. Does anyone have a site I can get info on breeding them or does anyone breed them and can give me info?

Thanks for the two sites from raven_sunn, but have already been to those two sites and they really did not help much. Need aquarium size for breeding pair, is grow out tank needed for fry (and how big), correct foods, lots of info, for successful breeding.

Differnet kinds. Goldies (also scobi for short), green phantoms, a kind of gold/white spot, and maybe mango's. Just to start with. Would like to get several kinds going. Sorry if the discriptions are not the best. Having diabetic problems at this time.

Plecos are cave spawners and need caves with the opening just barely larger than the male's widest part of his body. Feed them good with high protein flakes or pellets, zucchini and algae wafers for a couple weeks. Then do a 50% water change with the new water being 4-6 degrees cooler than the water in the tank. The male should then trap the female in his cave until she lays her eggs. He will then fertilize them and stay in the cave, fanning them, until they hatch. Once the fry are free swimming, he pays no more attention to them. I have had two or three different spawns in the same tank with no predation by the father or the older babies at all. I always remove the mother to another tank to start conditioning her for the next batch. With 3 or 4 females to choose from, he usually starts another batch within a month or so.

The bushynose (bristlenose) plecos are the best to start with, they always sell well at fish auctions and you can trade them to the pet stores for food if they know anything at all about plecos. They will get about $9-10 each for them, so try to get retain for retail or wholesale for wholesale. Don't let them pay you wholesale for the plecs and give you food at retail value.

I have albino and regular brown bushynoses growing out right now, waiting for the next fish auction.

Also, your might try a website called "plecofanatics.com", there is a lot of info there.

What kind of pleco are you trying to breed? Bristlenose plecos are quite commonly bred.

they are egg layers you have to raise the water temp. a little keep the light out for a couple of days you will notice a slimy substance on the tank at this point i would remove the parents so they dont eat them and wait for the eggs to hatch
