engines are made to handle certain grades of gas.
The owners manual will most likely have the grade recomended for your car.
Others will cause engine problems.

No. Premium has a bit higher vapor pressure than regular gasoline. What this means is you can compress it more (and thus bring it to a higher temperature) before it ignites. However, a gasoline engine depends on spark for ignition, not temperature. You might have high enough compression in a high performance engine to ignite 89 octane fuel, but your Saturn isn't one of these.

Using premium will have little effect on your car. The difference in energy content of the fuel is negligible. Your engine won't run hotter, because the cooling system maintains the engine temperature.

In effect, you may gain a little benefit from the detergent packages in some premium fuels (which will keep your injectors clean) but you won't get additional milage, nor will you damage your engine. For the most part you're just wasting three bucks a tankful.

I'll have to agree with wicked micky on this one, the only reason to run high octane fuel in an engine is if it has a high compression rating or is a high performance engine. There's a reason most race vehivles burn high octane fuel and the reason is that it keeps the fuel and air mixture for prematurely detonating and tearing the engine to shreads. In a normal passenger car and most certainly your car in particular running premium fuel would be like taking a hooker to the Riz Carlton hotel LOL

The grade of gasoline you burn has no bearing on engine temp. This is controlled by the cooling system.

It won't hurt your engine, and if you can use regular, use it. High octane fuel burns more slowly. In a high-compression engine, low octane fuel will explode, causing knock.

No, but there is no need to run premium gas in it. It was designed for regular grade

No, premium fuel isn't "hotter" or more "powerful"--it just burns more evenly.
