Im gettin a 97 suzuki katana for about 2000. I have very little to spend on it but i want to get the most out of my money. I want it to ride smoothe and have a sport feel to it, but it doesnt have to be a crotch rocket. What do i need/want?

Get 750 or earlier 1100. the 600 is a bit underpowered but quite a nice little bike. 750 will do about 150mph and is real easy to ride too fast.
Look for some later forks/shocks/wheels on e-bay or local bike dismantlers (breakers/junk yards) If you don't have much cash your going to have to be creative and learn to fix it yourself

The Katana IS one of the original crotch-rockets! Just what, exactly do you think you're going to need for this bike? Is it well maintained and in good running condition? If so, just ride it! It won't cost you more than a tank full of gas and an occasional oil change.
