How come Yahoo Answers doesnt give us points for voting anymore, or when people give us a thumbs up?

(They used to give 1 point for voting on a best answer, and also when people give you a thumbs up on your best answer.)

I don't see why people precieve getting a thumbs up as an easy point. It would be well deserved if anothe person votes your answer as good. I think that is worthy of a point. Besides, it's not like people dn't just go around answering any lame B.S. answer just for the 2 point anyway. At least giving an honest vote is a real good way to get points.

Well, I think they give one point for voting for best answer. The thumbs up or down I'm not a fan of. There was not a lot of voting going on before; I don't know why they wanted to start more. More people need to vote but I think it takes a while to honestly pick a best answer and it's way more trouble than asking and answering quesions, don't you think?

I think they are making it harder to get to the higher levels because they have made promises of all sorts of prizes for people to get once they reach them. I don't honestly know the answer - but from a financial stand point (and after all Yahoo Inc. is a public traded company) they are driven by profits. I do think that Yahoo over all has to be happy because I am sure this is definately increasing the number of page views for yahoo meaning more advertiser dollars. It has been losing page views to websites like google, myspace, and utube and this slows that down I would think if not reverse it.

You still get 1 point for voting for best answer. For the thumbs ratings, it's a freebie because it would be too easy to thoughtlessly give thumbs up or thumbs down to answers.

if you check out the yahoo forum and the yahoo news - this gives you the reason why they are doing it

Personally I think it is a good idea - Not overly fussed with receiving points - but like the idea of being picked as the best answer

I think this voting was abused by people wanting high ratings even though they were 'Thick as Pic S***"

I myself was outraged by this same thing. I to wrote out a question since I was gone for awhile and only pop in and out every now and then.

Its pretty rare to get a thumbs up, I know. I don't like it either.

Bad Answers!!! Shame on u!! I do like the part where you can give a thumbs down to answers u don't like without the screen refreshin and it having to be a best answer to rate it.

You still get an answer for voting for an undecided question. But no, you don't get a point for Thumbs Up/Down anymore.

The Yahoo! Answers Team said they may bring it back, but they're not sure.

do you know the most fundamental right of democracy?

not about points at all, i'd say.
like any "site" that is hardly "regulated" @ all, Yahoo! Answers, despite its noble intentions, is mostly visited by... anybody.
thus, anybody is going to come with any crap, just to participate;
be glad they decided to give out points for answering (even ONE letter), otherwise you wouldn't even see your own questions x( 8-X
they even give 100 points just to create an account.
what does THAT tell you about the value of points?
nothing, again.
it's a credit you get, so you can ASK questions right away.
which, if memory servers well, will reduce your point credit, right?

happy answering... or asking, for that matter >;)

According to the "yamsters' there was too much abuse of this like supposedly stuffing the ballet or something like that. Might ask the Answers Team.
