I will be running both guitar and microphone through a Mackie mixerboard, out to Mackie self-powered speakers. Basically, a mobile PA system.

i am a singing in a (rock)band and i feel that the most popular choice for any vocalist is the "shure SM58"
it is the industry's "above the standard" mic.
with the best price for what you get.
most sites have it listed for around 100$
overall the best mic for live vocals today.

If you are using the mic for vocals only (not to mic the guitar), need reliable portability, and want something that sounds good for the money then get yourself a Shure SM58. You will also need a good quality boom stand to keep it away from the guitar. But if you are putting a mic on the guitar as well than I would have different recommendations.

I'm not sure if you'd consider these guys rock, but they're all better musicians than 98% of the rockers/metalheads. The guys I'm talking about are the blue guitarists like BB King, Clapton, Buddy Guy, Johnny Lang, John Mayer, etc etc. They're all amazing guitarists and sing as well. And Jerry Cantrell is definitely rock. He has some solo stuff where he does lead vocals and guitar, but he also sang lead on some of Alice In Chains stuff too.
