The first step is to find the Schedule B number for the item you are importing. You can look here:http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/schedules/b/

Secondly, contact Customs. Ask for a commodity specialist that deals with your type of import. Be sure to knwo the value of the shipment and the number of itewms you are bringing in. They will be able to tell you what the duies are.
In many cases your freight forwarder or shipping comapny will work as a customs broker to be sure your goods clear customs.
