hpv is NOT always an std. yes it is a virus but it is very common among women. most women have a form of this virus that shows up during pregnancy. certain types can cause cervical cancer and yes there is a type of hpv that causes genital warts. if you have genital warts, you may not be able to see them and you will probably not be able to feel them. having them removed by a doctor is the best bet because they can multiply and build on top of eachother. look for articles at www.webmd.com

HPV is an STD. Most people don't even know they have it. Certain types of HPV can cause cervical cancer. When you go to the GYN for your annual pap you shoud ALWAYS request they run HPV testing on your smear. Also if they use the ThinPrep method it is more accurate. If caught early knowing you have HPV will allow you to treat it more quickly and look for any changes that indicate cervical early as well so you have a better chance of treating it effectively.
