Invites.
Gmail is badass.
I have an assload of invites, just send a e-mail to KurtCobainIsDeadlol@gmail.com

Yes you can if you get an invitation to gmail from someone having a gmail email account ( as i do)

yes, but i think you need to be invited.
have someone you know that has a gmail account, send you an invite to join.
or...just borrow someone else's cell phone and send the code to it. you dont actually need a cell phone, just access to a phone to receive the text message code to let you register.

They've just released gMail out of beta in Japan so it should be following in other places soon.
