After watching 'Beyond The Mat' - Im totally convinced that the real hero of wrestling has to be Foley :)

He seems like a bit of an enigma - one of the most intelligent, polite and caring people (the scenes with his family are so touching) yet a complete nilhilist in the ring.

Are any his books worth buying?

Ok - going into my memory banks a little so bare with me - When Foley came to the WWF as Mankind, he wore brown with a kind of druid symbol - and I also remember a PPV which involved midgets in robes and flaming torches...can someone explain the Mankind gimmick to me, because to me it seems he went from some kind of ancient druid type to a psycho in a tie?

Have a nice day is in my eyes the best wrestling biography out there, Foley is good isnt a bad read either.

As for the gimmick...

Yes he entered in a brown unifom (which foley affectionally refers to as the "turd in a mask look") with the Ankh symbol on his trousers

If i remember correctly he came in with Paul Bearer after Bearer had split from taker to team up with Kane and was supposed to have been a mental patient who lived in the boiler-room with his pet rat. The name mankind was foleys idea so when he used it in promos there was ambiguity about werather he was referring to mankind the man or mankind the species. There wasnt that much backstory to the character as WWE were concious that most fans really knew it was cactus jack anyway

Like it or not Mick Foley will definitely be in the Hall-of-Fame one day. He spent most of his mainstream career in WWE and Vince McMahon has him to thank for helping him save his precious company during a time when Bischoff and WCW were crushing them in the ratings game so he owes him that much.

I don't think Mick has said or done anything that will be completely detrimental to his induction, especially since it really was partially Vince's fault that he left so he can't really complain about the stuff Mick said on TNA.

But with or without an induction Mick will still be remembered forever as a hardcore legend who played a major role in the Monday Night Wars and was part of a famous tag team. The Hall-of-Fame will simply be a confirmation of his legacy.

all of Foley's books are good reads, i don't know much about the gimmick but i do know that the mankind mask belonged to the undertaker when he was healing from a broken jaw, so Vince decided that it fitted with micks mankind persona and it has stuck since.
