One of my friends who's white (I'll call her K) got into a huge argument with my other friends and I some time ago. She went off on a tangent, which ended with her saying that it was unfair that she wouldn't get into college because minorities like us would take her spot. She has a 2.8 GPA. My friends Ashley (black), Ed (Mexican) and I (black) each have 4.17 GPAs.

Do you think she felt entitled to get into college over us because she's white?

To answer someone's question, at my school they weigh honors and AP classes, so if you get an A in those, which would normally be 4 points, you get 5 points. The valedictorian had a GPA of 4.8, lol

A 4.17? I don't understand how one can get more than an A but I guess you're being truthful, as I heard a 5 was reported. Did you explain to K. that you, Ashley, and Ed have higher GPA's? Of course, GPA is not ALL college admissions are based on:achievement test scores, essays, personal interviews, area of study, family background, ethnicity, and other concerns factor in. Ones estimated chances at thriving play a big part. Perhaps K. is just having a hard time. Don't chalk it up to feeling entitled, unless she tells you as much.

No, I think she felt entitled to get into college over other non-whites with a lower GPA than she has, but take her spot because the college needs to fill a quota. I don't think she was talking about you personally. But not knowing "K" I can't really be sure.

No. She is not very observant because white people still get accepted to college more than minorities are. If she gets good grades and a scholarship, they'll shove poorly performing minorities or white people out of her way to get her a spot in college. She may believe in "reverse discrimination", which is true in some cases but not normally for college. And there are colleges that only white people attend. They don't call them "white colleges" but they are there.

It sounds like she's spewing a bunch of propaganda she heard from her parents or other people who want to blame blacks and other minorities for their problems.

I don't think a 2.8 GPA necessarily precludes her from getting into college, although she is probably not a candidate for academic scholarship based on her grades. If she doesn't get in, she has no one but herself to blame. She needs to think for herself, and then she may realize being white does not entitle her to anything. She needs to work!

I think that she was just mad that she didn't get into college and her friends did. People say dumb things when they're embarrased and are arguing. Maybe she said that because schools do hold spots open for minorities. Nice GPA!

uh I don't know , but EVERYONE should be allowed to get into college. College should be FREE for everyone . The feeling of entitlement has nothing ot do with skin color it has to do with what kind of person you are.

No, she is not entitled because she is white. You are all entitled because of your very respectable GPAs.
