I believe the correct answer is 33.

There are the 24 time zones around the world offset by one hour each. (I am not counting the U.S. daylight savings time zones as separate time zones from standard time zones ... e.g. in the Continental U.S., only 4 are in effect at any given time.)

Plus there are 8 time zones that are offset on the half-hour, specifically: India, Myanmar (Burma), Iran, Iraq, Central Australia, Newfoundland in Canada, French Polynesia, and the Pitcairn Islands.

And there is one time zone offset on the 3/4-hour: Nepal.

24 + 8 + 1 = 33.

Interesting question, and not as obvious as it first looks.

In the UK we have Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and British Summer time. So, do we have two time zones, or one? I THINK the answer is one.

In Australia, they have 3 time zones:
Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) (GMT +10).
Australian Central Standard Time (ACST) (GMT +9 ½).
Australian Western Standard Time (AWST) (GMT +8).

Now, I don't know of anywhere else where they have a time zone
½ hour different to GMT.

So, the answer could be 25.
