I don't think it would wipe out New Orleans. Many people confuse New Orleans with a really small area. New Orleans is a big sprawling city. Many parts of New Orleans are OK whilst many are not.
The people of the US are wonderful with their kindness and generosity. New Orleans is vulnerable to hurricanes, just as Miami and New York city are.
Any coastal metropolitan areas can be devastated for a time, but they will return if the water recedes. I know that new building codes should help some people rebuild higher and better.
I hope Ernesto goes somewhere else. We still have too much work needing to be done in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.
New Orleans will always be as long as their is land there. People will work and live in a city as amazing as this.

Its horrible to say this but yes it is going to hit. I don't doubt it. I literally went through Katrina and I have never been so scared before in my life. I had this horrible attitude after saying that there is no point and building anything back because it is just going to happen again. The most amazing part of Katrina was how everyone became so helpful to others that they didn't know. Anything. Everyone was together after the hurricane. I still have family and friends scattered from New Orleans to Mobile. Everyone knows now to not F around when hurricanes come now. Thank you so much for everyone or anyone whom helped us.

Well unless the path changes it doesn't look like it is going to New Orleans. It appears to be going towards Mobile/Pensacola area as of the latest advisory. But those of us who live on the Gulf Coast hopefully know to be prepared no matter what the advisories say because hurricanes are only predictable to a point. It could change directions at any time.

I don't think so, IMVHO, Katrina took care of that. It left nothing of the original New Orleans save a small portion of the french quarter.

Well, if it does it will finish what would have happened sooner or later, as all those idiots moved back without doing anything about the levees, the low ground, the judicial and political systems, etc., etc.
