My boyfriend was driving a car that wasn't insured. He was driving it to swap with his ex girlfriend, because he had hers and she had his. He was not aware that there was no insurance. he got pulled over and ticketed. NJ law says mandatory punishment for this is loss of license for 1 year. He HAS to travel for business. Is there any way he won't lose his license?

Get an attorney to negotiate a plea for him to keep his license.

Show up to court and talk to the prosecuter before hand, explain the car wasn't registered to him and he had no idea it wasn't insured. He should show his valid insurance card for his car for the period he was stopped.

Most prosecuters will drop the charges. If that doesn't work plead it to the judge.
