It depends on the circumstance. I find myself hating it a lot of the time because it has issues with downloading music. At those times, it's name is f**king s.o.b. Sometimes it is all I have in the world and I would commit suicide without it. At those times, I call it my savior. In public, I notice that people think it's odd to talk to your iPod. (stupid general concensus.) So if I talk to it, I call it iPod, but for the most part, it's name is Mr. Smith.

I called mine Fred. I don't know why it just seemed like a good idea at the time.

I have called mine Lakshmi after the Hindu Goddess.
That will be my daughter's middle name.
The goddess signifies wealth......I paid for it in full not installments through the catalogue and it has cost me an an arm and a leg purchasing songs on there!

no use calling the thing something else, it might have and identity crisis later on in life
