do zoos and places accept them? just wondering. I have 3 pacus, and they get to about 3 feet long. that doesnt bother me, but if they arent happy in a confided tank, id prefer them going to a zoo or fish aquarium that would accept them, because there would be more room for them. are there other places that would accept such a large fish?
im not worried about not being able to take care of them. yes i knew about this before i bought them, but i want them to be happy if they get that large. they are just babies now.
I dont want to hear about how irresponsible im am, blah blah, i love my fish, thats why im asking. if they arent happy being in a limited tank, then i would prefer them to live out their life happy.
Thank you.

You could try a zoo but I see lots of pacus in public aquariums which makes me think they have taken on many a pacu that has gotten too big for a aquarist's tank. The zoo may say they won't take it because they don't have a place for it and already have too many large pacus. When they get too big you could try to find a fish store that has a large enough tank - the store might take them to sell or display them. You could try contacting an aquarium society to see if any members have giant tanks and want one.

If all else fails and you really cannot provide for them, I hate to say this, but you could euthanise them or even eat them (people in the Amazon eat them all the time!) Better this than the poor fish suffer a long time.

You can't release them into the wild, though, no matter what, since that wreaks havoc on the environment.

Just laying out some options...

Sell or trade them at the pet/fish store.

It doesn't hurt to call and ask your local zoo or aquarium!! Good luck!
