A timeshare is the name given to piece of real estate where a number of individuals share ownership in the subject property. As opposed to a standard home where an individual or, for example, a husband and wife share ownership, a timeshare is almost always owned by a number of people who have no relation to one another whatsoever.

They offer nice little gifts when you go to there timeshare shows.
Watch out for additional fees that come with the resorts.
There is a maintenance and swapping fees , also there is a so many years that you can own your time share. When the years expire, you have to start all over again. Personally I think it is a waste of money, but then again there are people that would say its the best thing in the world.

Do a google search for "Worst Investments" and you will find timeshares up there. It is the right to stay in a property, or network of properties, for a given period of time every year. You also pay various fees to maintain that right. Like cars they have a huge depreciation hit once you purchase the thing, and in general are hard to resell. If you take all of the costs you really are better off in hotels. If you do want to buy one consider buying it on the secondary market so that you allow someone else to take that initial depreciation hit for you.

It's not worth your money. I'd rather stay in a hotel. No time shares for me, thank-you very much.
