Just curious. Do you know anyone around you who uses it?

Curiouser and Curiouser, I've searched and searched the internet for this etymological question, and can find nothing. Here in Tennessee, we sometimes use "Yeehaw", but it's always in the sarcastic sense.
Wife: My mother is coming to stay for three weeks.
Me(dejected): Yeehaw. I can't wait.

The only connections that I see with Yeehaw are that Yee and Haw were once used to make an Ox move. Yee and Haw were corrupted from Gee and Gaw.

I know this isn't much help, but I thought I would explain about the Internet thing, in case you don't get any answers.

I'm thinking it came about with "square dancing". It was around before "Hee Haw" but they used it and made it popular at that time. Yep, I think xoxo has it right.
