I am just wondering because ive lost a few hours of things because I cant save them, though their not important, but, Ive lost about 7 hours of stuff. Its annoying because I want to finish something in the morning, and then I wake up and everything is shut off because my computer restarted. Why? Its starting to get annoying. And its not like I dont restart it myself, but, if I dont for a couple days, it opts to do it itself. How do I stop this? Or is it because it just gets too hot, or gets too lagged down with information it just stops?

Well its nothing important, but I cant actually save it. Its not a program or anything, its through websites. I can save the page, but once I close the browser, its all deleted.

And for updating, I have auto updates shut off. I redid my windows, downloaded service pack 2, and left it at that. I find that running good antivirus/spyware/adware and a good firewall, I dont need all the updates and patches. My computer runs alot faster now then before.

Yes, the inside of my tower is clean. I open it every month or so and blow out all the dust. Im not violent or anything, (Like spinning the fans really fast when I blow it out). I am very cautious with the psu so i dont short it out. But, ive had my computer for about 3 years now, and its been on almost 24hours a day since then. So the psu could be wearing down, but, I was already planning on a new one because my current one cant push this graphics card. Well, the one Im putting in that is.

Well, I havent installed really any new drivers, except a controller driver, but that was a few months ago. New hardware was almost 8 months ago. And that was a graphics card. But its only been doing this for a month or so.

And I actually dont know what happens prior to restart, it always happens when Im either asleep or not around. Ive never seen the blue screen of death. I think it just shutsdown and restarts. But I may be mistaken.

could be updating. your computer automatically updates and when it does it usually restarts. mine does it about once a week or so, but not every few days.

Download and run speedfan. Its a free program that monitors your system for overheating. Remove auto restart like already mentioned. If when restarts have blue screen of death record message and numbers. Should be Something like If_not_less_or_equal_to then 0x0000000e. Open up google and search for, "blue screen of death error codes". Look up your one. It could be just a driver incompatibily (Installed any new drivers lately?), a conflict, or hardware.

Start>>control panel(classic view)>>power options. check this out

cant understand why you cant save your work; you must be able to do that. open a document do a bit then close it; you will be asked if you want to save it. Anyway most programs have auto save and recovery.

Odds are that continuous running is making the power supply flaky.
