Just download regular yahoo messanger, but don't use the voice aspect of it.

I 'fought' downloading 8.0 for about 2 months, and then, finally, I caved..
and I'm glad I did.. the only problem I have with it is, the sounds are really sucky..

You probably can, but I don't know how. I just don't use the voice part. Works just fine.
