The US Supreme Court does not recognize the right to choose your own death as a fundamental right.

That means it is up to the states.

You don't have the "right to die with dignity", however, that doesn't mean that you can't die with dignity if you choose to.

I can tell you from experience that it's not difficult to find a doctor who will help facilitate someone's death so long as the request is coming from the patient themselves and the doctor is confident that the request is being made seriously and with full use of their mental faculties.

My dad had discussed his feelings on death with dignity with his doctor long before he was diagnosed with cancer. His doctor confirmed it was what he wanted after the diagnosis and, when he was at the end of his life, we were given a prescription for a massive amount of morphine that was to be injected (my sis is a nurse) each hour. He made the choice a few days before his "natural" death was imminent. He was fully aware right up until the first injection and he eased into the death that he wanted with all of us by his side.

It is very difficult to have a doctor assisted suicide in a hospital but it's very easy to arrange one when you are getting home care. Our doctor explained that if we called an ambulance to take dad to hospital in his last few days, she wouldn't be able to help him when he wanted it. It would only be possible at home.

The reason that euthanasia is such a difficult thing to legislate is because it's something that should only be up to the individual who is dying and it's not always possible to get their input. If it had been left up to me, my mom would have had the same peace my dad had at his end but, luckily, it's not up to me. My mom's faith and beliefs did not allow her to choose a peaceful end and we abided by her choice just as we had with my dad. My mom's death was a very difficult thing to bear for both her and her family but it was what she wanted.

In my opinion, you may remove yourself from this earth anyway you wish. However, you may not take anyone else with you.
