Because this country works on conflicting principles. One is a principle of self-determination, and the other is looking to the government ot solve our problems. we that work pay taxes to help those in need. Some people, that do not live up to their own responsibilities, become those in need. But the funding is limited, and every single mom wants a slice of that pie; every child has needs. People have to be held accountable for their own actions, but the US wont let people fail completely. If you want more funding for your special needs child, then earn it, or ask your neighbors to pay more taxes.

Before the private charities that can determine who has legitimate needs and who just wants a handout let government take over, you would have had more help than you could handle. Now, you need to find a real charity.

There is....you have to look. How old is your son? Have you checked with your local dept of human services? Depending on your state, there are wonderful programs for special needs kids. I'd also check w/ your local hospital, churches and pediatrician.

Because if you really have a problem in life you're often really alone. And because our Republican controlled governments love to slash social services, even if the savings is only miniscule.

To answer Cabizon above:
"Some people, that do not live up to their own responsibilities, become those in need."
Yeah...corporations, got handouts to build factories and take jobs overseas..paid by you:)
I agree, if we're not going to pay welfare to the less fortunate, no way in hell should we be giving it to corporations that take the handouts overseas...
