Art therapy is a tool that can be beneficial to the improvement of one's mental health, but usually it is used in conjunction with individual psychotherapy. It is particularly useful with younger people, especially young children because it allows them open expression without the need of an extensive vocabulary.

I would believe that at some level you could say yes, but ultimately art therapy doesn't compare to the way other treatments can help a person. Try cognitive therapy to cope with traumatic events.
