As a slogan, it might end when Bush is out. The war on Al Qaida could end by capturing Osama, but it may not. So far, every number 2 guy that gets killed or captured, then we hear about the new #2, and the war goes on. Troops will leave Iraq if the US withdraws then, or the Iraqi government feels secure enough to ask them to leave. Same for Afghanistan. Security will be raised or lowered due to various reasons, including recently discovered plots vs budget pressures. I don't think anyone will declare the war on terror over because the various parts won't all end at once. When troops are withdrawn from Iraq, it won't be called "The end of the War on Terror" by anyone (Democrat or not). So it will not officially end. The choice is not convert or fight. Terrorists have zero chance of making people convert, Someday demographic trends might (far future - closer for Europe maybe) make the US an Islamic country, but that won't happen by terrorism.

No body knows for sure, the irony ,however is that the terror acts increased around the world as the war continues, plus there is no mentioning now of AlQaeda as it had been at the 1st stage of this war. The abrupt and swift shift from AlQaeda and Bin laden in the early days after 9/11 attacks to an overwelming propaganda for the Iraq war , and the WMD , yellow uranium from afrika...etc that turned all to be false, as if it seem like the 9/11 was just a pretext to go to war which seem pre-planned long before 9/11, plus a military action against Iraq was suggested to president Clinton by Rumsfeld and others from the same group, I think now we should expect other wars against Iran and probably Syria
I don't know an exact answer to your question , but it seems it will be for long time , long after president Bush leaves office

The war will never end. To end the current crisis we must stop this ideal that Islam is a good religion and that the problems are with small radical groups of Islamic faith and fully realize that all of Islam is group of radicals which has to be destroyed. An eye for an eye ! After all Islam is and always has been a religion determined to destroy all whom do not conform to their beliefs. Will the war on terror ever end? No !!! Not as long as there are people of the face of the earth. All wars have been a war on terror. All wars have been religious. So as long as we have people and religion we will have wars. Not just Islam but Christianity. The Koran preaches to kill infidels and the Bible says there will be wars and rumors of wars. The slim possibility of ending the war on terror is only when we declare a war on all religions and annihilate all primates. Remember monkeys terrorize monkeys of other species so they must go also.

The "war" on terror will end about the same time as the war on drugs and the war on poverty....
But, the "war" on terror is winable if you take away the social and financial inequity that breeds a sense of hopelessness where the only way to fight back is through "terror" tactics.
BTW, the "war" in Iraq, since it has nothing to do with terror will end as soon as we get responsible, intelligent leaders elected.

There will be no need for most of the war on terror after Israel ends its occupation of Arab lands and Palestine becomes a free nation. That is no good for the arms dealers therefore Bush and his comrades will make sure it continues for ever by allowing Israel to continue the occupation.

Never and yes it is forever. Now terror and the war on it are just a conflict of humans against humans who do not agree up on something, therefore for many the United States Army is a terrorist group in Irak since it took the country by force and by doing terrorist acts againts the Irakee people and its infrastructure, it has been over three years since we took Irak and I still haven't seen the .25 cents gallon of gas.

Probably WILL go on for a long time, and sure its nice for the arms dealers and manufacturers. SO WHAT? It's about the same as everybody gobbling up excessive amounts of gas and oil and complaining about the oil producers making a profit.
Lesson #1 for anyone going into sales -- "It's not immoral to make a profit."

That's the beauty (sic) figuratively, of it, read 1984, originally titled 1948 and intended to be about what the world would have been like if Hitler and Stalin had stuck to their pact and won WW2.
Constant war, constant fear constant power over the previously free people, "if you want to know the future Winston, imagine a jackboot stamping on a human face forever" But it's nice to know (not) that the v. rich will do really well out of it, and the rest of us...soylent green anyone?

There is no such thing as a War on Terror, and if there were, there would be no way to measure the ending!
The Republicans and business would love that! A license to steal forever!

It will go on forever. As long as the US is so envied by radical groups there will be a war on terrorism. Terrorism seems to stay a step ahead of us.
