how can you tell the difference between male and female betta fish?

females are small with no flowing tail fins. There are kind of boring looking. Males are usually the ones you see in the little cups (which by the way, they don't prefer to a regular tank)
Males are large with very flowing and colorful tail fins.

In fish world, usually male fishes have longer tails, brighter color and look better compare to the female. Female betta, has shorter tails and the colors are not as brighter as the male betta fish.
Another way,for sure to find out is if you put them together.. if they fight then you got two males or maybe two females.
If you have a pair( male and female) they 80% of the time, they will not fight.

Male bettas are the pretty colors and their fins are longer... for attracting females. Females are smaller and not as colorful and their fins are not as long.
If you still don't know, ask a PETCO or PETSMART associate and they should be able to help you!

males have longer fins,it has nothing to do with color, my females have very bright colors.so you can tell by the fins.
