Well if we put the same effort to rebuild the Gulf Coast as exists in Iraq, we could rebuild it with no problem. There aren't any terrorists (yet) in that region who would blowing up everything we fix.
Look we can either start getting real in this country or continue to pretend that the war in Iraq is some Brooks and Dunn happy horse7*& song that has a happy ending. It won't. The Gulf Coast could..but the Administration actually cares more about Iraqis than it does its own citizens.
Go figure.

There is one, ultimate, last hope. Sell the Iraqi oil. But that seems just as impossible as everyone is ready to pounce on Bush's back for it. No, I'm not trying to be funny, but given the current situation, there is very little leeway (if any) out of this mess. And even this absurd idea seems like a good idea now.
But why are you comparing Mississippi and Iraq? The rebuilding of New Orleans is going much more smoothly than Iraq, and obviously is making/made more progress.
Instead, compare the Iraq War to the Vietnam War, where we got our arses handed back to us, a complete failure. Or the Korean War, which is still technically in war (no truce), and thus the US still has troops stationed there, (since 1950, the start of the war).
Either the Iraq War is going to become another huge embarrassment and a huge humiliation to the world or a burden that America is going to carry for the next half-century (most likely more).
1) What the hell were we thinking...
***I'm sorry? Did you say WE?
2) and how many more times are we going to war in the wrong place, time, reason and for the same results?
***As long as Bush (or an equivalent) is sitting at the Oval Office.
3) Well, are we going to do this again?
***See above answer.
4) Are you going to fall for the lies, deceits, coverup's and the Hovean slogans again?
***No. But I can't stop the government from doing idiotic things with my two hands. Let's join and form a coalition!
5) God help us!
***Yes, but Allah and Buddha too. Saving America is now gonna be a harder job, even for God himself.

The biggest misconception Americans have is that the Attack on Iraq was about some tangible goal such as liberating people from a dictatorship. No one has actually listened to Geo W, War is the New Economy. Until Bush came along the US Military was mostly over bloated and underemployed. Those Trillions of dollars that you mentioned, how many of them have fallen through the cracks, slipping into various bank accounts - - - but hey, don't ignore the trickle down effect. Are you aware that every amputee requires the services of from two to twenty medical specialties, that translates into lots of money for lots of health care workers. As for Construction - - - are you aware that hundreds of communities will demand and will get rec-centers & the like built to carry the name of some dead local hero. Geo W and his cronies are getting rich off of the War why should ordinary citizens cry & whine?

It will never happen unless they do something behind the scenes like place a pro-american dictator that will make good business with them. (this happened in Iran about two generations ago) Thats why Iran is mad.
The entire plan is not to rebuild Iraq but to establish military bases on their soil for future wars in that region. this has happened in many countries.
Even if democracy is established it will not last long. there will always be "terrorists" lol, Muslims from Iraq and outside will never let this happen. there are too many extremists with too much power that are strongly against democracy.
think about this, there are countries like Sudan, Somalia and Congo that have been in war for decades but why cant they be rebuild?
It is not in the interest of the Bush admin. to do so.
Each of these countries live in the shadows of genocides much more violent than Sadam Hussein's attack on the minorities.
watch the documentary "Why We Fight". it will clear things up for you. It is a recent movie/not hard to find.

I agree with you 200%. We need to get our asses out of there. Those people were sorry to say killing each other long before we went over there and will be doing it long after we leave. All that money spent so far and it could have gone for projects at home. Such as, Hurricane relief, helping the homeless here in the USA, and various children's organizations. All those soldiers men and women alike that have lost their lives due to the BULLSHIT over there could have been here serving the OWN country by helping with the South's clean-up and rebuilding efforts.

Iraq will be rebuilt better and much faster than
New Orleans or the coast of Mississippi,
The republicans priories are just a little different here than over seas.
I don't trust Bush or his followers to do anything worth while for this country. He has no success to brag about so he invents one .Hes a liar and should be impeached for stupidity ,too bad thats not possible.

WE shouldn't be responsible for buidling Iraq!
The BUSH-family and ALL of their supporters should be responsible for that task!
The BUSH-administration's response to Katrina was pathetically irresponsible, shameful, and insensitive!
WE need to rise-up with a vengeance in November 2006 and vote the Rebuplicans out of office...then...WE can work on impeaching BUSH!
This is the only solution for the problem and the only answer to your question!

There is no good answer I can think of but I know we are not prepared for a disaster if it were to hit again. It's been a year and there are people that are still in need of better housing.

Why don't you read an article from someone who has actually been there. May God bless our troops and may he also continue to give strength to the President as he continues with resolve to do what no one else has the guts too, fight!
