No. Hazing is against the law. If they keep you off the team you can sue. But I would just complain to the state ed board. I have heard stories of team hazing, and I won't allow my kid to try out for any sport, that says she has to go thru some type of newcomer ritual.

There is hazing and there is hazing. Once upon a time, hazing used to involve doing things that were (or could be) dangerous if not downright deadly. Today, that has been eliminated, and is illegal. But -- many groups have rituals that are used to bond a group together. It can be something as simple as a cheer that the team uses before they go out on the field. That's a whole different thing than hazing.
The short answer to your question is no, you don't have to be hazed to be part of a sports team.
