Well, I guess the better question is does the MEDIA promote stupidity? Think about it. A lot people don't really know what is going on in the American government or in the world for that matter. Yet, everyone knows what is going on with celebrities. Convince me (I beg of you) that this is not true.
P.S. I asked this question a while back. I'm hoping for more answers.

Since you mentioned the American government, I presume you're talking about the US. I would say yes, the American media (plural) certainly do promote ignorance and lazy-mindedness, but after all, they are businesses, so they will produce what sells.

If you believe in any of the follwoing you are already VERY STUPID
1) 9/11 was done by OBL
2) White House is not a House of WHite Lies
3) Al-Qaeedah exists
4) OBL is alive and kicking and he is or was a terrorist
5) People hijacked the plane through plasticwares
6)people were carrying liquied in the boittles to mix in the planes to blast the planes
7) World Trade Center was demolished by plane crash
8) OBL is sending Antrax from Tora Boar to Washingto DC non stop
9) We are noit in world war III
10) Hezbollah is not an ally of Israel and its purpose was not to give Israel an innocent face
11) Saddam, Qaddafi, Bishar Asad and Uosef Ramzy are Muslims
12) Bush is an intelligent and honest man

Yes this country does promote stupidity in Media and in its government, and education. For us to be a superpower we are behind in education both academic and sexual. The media, newspapers especially are stupid when they print stories. All another nation has to do to attack the U.S. is to read a paper or look at the television and get a whole play by play layout. Sad.

It's not a stupid question. Consider the source of the information that most people choose to receive. Combine that with the fact that the government runs the schools and you will understand why a lot of people are stupid!

Sure, it promotes stupidity, if people were actually encouraged to be smarter, they couldn't be controlled. Although we go to school ,learn things, it is covered in the mist of which we call the media. Most teenagers, and even adults care more about what's going on with Hillary Duff than anything.

its the same with the news - celeb gossip is an escape; a coverup for the real news which often is too painful or hard to hear.
its like going out on a date - he' real nice and sweet and buys you lots of treats.
but the bottom line is its just a cover up - to trick you into letting him get down your pants (or up your skirt)

lol through fact there're extra stupid human beings than the clever ones, so stupid human beings like to hearken to stupid information from stupid celebrities, and there is not any data that media isn't stupid, so be it.
