Cause when I graduated high school, credit was something new. Just like millions of others around this nation, banks know that we are not educated until we f_ck up our credit. Its not fun, but if someone would have informed me in high school, my credit would be spotless. Banks work against the young american consumer with their promotions and gimicks. Hey I loved my trip to Cancun, but the price I was paying for the rest of the year was sucky.

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!! I said this same thing to myself a very long time ago because I am in the same predicament as you. Had I been aware of how credit works during high school and how your credit has a great impact on your financial life, it would have definitely helped me make better decisions. I'm not completely saying that I wouldn't be in debt at such a young age had such a class been offered in high school because the ultimate decisions are up to you, but I certainly would have been better informed, thus I would have made better decisions.

If child development or even cooking classes are being offered in high school, why not also educate young adults about credit before they go out into the real world and start making adult decisions and facing adult responsibilities?? The banks certainly won't help and parents can only do but so much. The school systems should take every advantage they have to educate young adults to better lead them to into a more successful path.

I'm not sure if my answer is even an answer, but I totally support your idea. Like I said, I was thinking of this same thing myself a while back ago! Educating young adults about their credit should be mandatory!

Yes, definitely! Too many Americans are in debt - so much so that most will never be able to get out of it. The best plan is to not have any credit cards. Use a debit card which is the same as writing a check except it comes out immediately. With credit cards everyone has a problem with spending money they don't have.

Yes! But, I wonder how many students can even balance a check book, or make a budget in order to assure a debt payment.

I think "math" courses fail in some ways by not relating it to everyday life. So many can't count or make change without a calculator or computer, or a computerized cash register.

Some of the homework seen here is rediculous.

Absolutely. There is a horrible lack of education out there which is why I started my business. I give both paid and free lectures about personal finance all the time and intend to try to start working with the school system at the beginning of the year.

Actually I would suggest Personal Finance be a class that you must pass before graduating.

It is silly to graduate a high schooler who has no idea what a checking account or credit card is and what finance charges and APR means.

The definition of happiness is "being content cloth with one's self." It doesn't remember how some distance up the ladder-of-existence we've climbed, somewhat its how we dealt with others as we make the complicated climb to the suitable.
