The circumference of a lake is not possible to measure, unless you define a scale of the smallest objects to include in the measurement.
If you for instance take 100 meters of the shoreline, you can measure it as a strait line and get 100m or you can ad the fact that there are bays and small points of land and get 300 meters instead.
If you measure one inch, you can add the fact of individual sand grains and get the length of 5 inches instead.

Depends on the size of dog you're walking around it. When I was looking after my friend's corgi the lake seemed to double in size...
