You go to the local post office and fill out an application. You will need the consent of the father of your 7 month old son to get his passport.

you, your son, and your sons father need to go to the post office together along with your completed passport applications and the money for the fees for the passports. You can get them faster by paying a bit more. I think its something like $60 more per passport to get them within 2 weeks of when you turned the applications in. If you are planning to travel to mexico without your sons father you will also need a notarized document proving that he has given you permission to take him out of the country. I also suggest that you bring along a notarized/offical copy of his birth certificate. Take the proper precautions to avoid any potential problems. I have traveled back and forth from The US and Mexico since my son was 3 weeks old and he is now 6. Haven't had any problems yet, but that is probably because I carry all of the documentation I might need. Hope you have fun and Goodluck. Hope this helped. =)

A passport is best. But If you are an American citizen, you may not need a passport for yourself. Unless the rules have recently changed, you need only your birth certificate. The child is a whole different set of rules. You will need papers from the child's father to take the child out of the country.

Paperwork for passport at your post office. The Internet has lots of info available. Start with the state department link below.

Whoever is going to Mexico need to fill out passport applications at the post office. If the child's father is not going then you'll need a notarized statement from him giving you permission to take him out of the country. Also a notarized copy of the child's birth certificate is good to carry along.

You need to go to Walgreens or some other place that offers passport pics, usually costs around 7$, then go to your main US Post Office branch in your town.

P.S. It takes around 1-2 months for the passport to arrive so do it quickly!
