This situation is not likely to end without some type of confrontation. Steel yourself for when it happens and know what you need to say. Do not exacerbate the situation in any manner. Keep your words and your voice calm, non-threatening, and matter-of-fact. Let the person know that as a civilized person you do not engage in acts of physical violence. Not only is such behavior immature, it violates the law. Fighting on your way to, or on your way home from school may result in suspension. Tell them that your education is too important to waste time with immature rumors. Avoid getting into situations where you might contribute to rumors.
Your anxiety about getting hurt when you go outside is normal. The key is to overcome that feeling of fear and go outside as you normally do in spite of the threat.
If you know the email addresses of these girls, send them an email and tell them that what they heard is not something that you said. Perhaps someone misinterpreted you or someone is attempting to create strife between you.
Good luck!

Start a paper trail, meaning start letting people know that this is going on, so that if something does arise it will be known that you haven't be intiating this foolishness. Then try not to acknowledge their ignorance, although I know times have changed since I was your age, and kids are much more dangerous now, if they do confront you, let them know that you didn't say those things and would like to be cool with them, if they say no then say your lost and walk away. You've done your part after that

my advise is to ignore them, but at the same time talk to a teacher from your school or a concilier and explain the whole situation. another possibility is to make friends with some friends of those two and try to say good things about them in front of others, so that they see that you're not to be blamed.

have you talked with your parents?
Or the school?
that's about all I can come up with. only experience I had with a fight in school (very long time ago) was someone coming up to me at my locker saying she was gonna kick my butt. then I said who ARE you anyway? That was the last I saw of her.
Turns out there was almost an identical girl in our class.

JUST WALK AWAY IF THEY EVER COME UP TO YOU. THATS THE BEST THING TO DO. SINCE YOU'RE OLDER THAN THEM, WALKING AWAY SHOWS THAT YOU ARE "GROWN UP", HOPE THAT HELPS. I'VE BEEN IN THIS TYPE OF SITUATION BEFORE....BUT WE WERE IN THE SAME GRADE. AND IF YOU IGNORE THEM, THEY WON'T BOTHER YOU. GEEZ....SEEMS LIKE JUST YESTERDAY I WENT THROUGH WITH HIGH SCHOOL DRAMA. I LOOK BACK AT IT TODAY AND I LAUGH AT WHY THEY GOT MAD AT ME. BUT WE'RE ALL FRIENDS NOW.

Ignore them, they are trying to make themselves feel better by bringing you down. If it becomes an issue where you are really scared, tell your parents, and a school teacher.
