purring is the characteristic nature of all cats (cat family ) so, all cats including lions, tigers, leopard etc. do purr.

The biggest purring cat is the cougar (mountain lion)

The realy big cats (lions and tigers) growl and don't purr.

cats do but lions dont purr. it is usually actually more of a vibration coming from the belly of the beast most likely the hunters mobile phone ringing after the lion ate him! :-)

I watched a special on Animal Planet or Discovery about cheetahs that were found orphaned in the wild and were being raised in captivity. During one of the interviews with a caregiver, a cheetah was 'cuddling' up against him purring loudly. It was kind of cute despite the possibility of it ripping his face off. So in that instance, I wold say yes.

Yes But with the Larger cats it sounds much more like growling.

Yes, I think they all do - I think they do a lot of the same things as domestic cats, like play in the same way and wash and hunt the same

Yes i believe they all do, especially when they are cubs, i think the adults lower roaring is more of a purr
