There are numerous Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques out there.

Try http://www.seochat.com, the best resource I can give. There are several tools that help you check your website’s keywords density, page rank lookup.

Major search engines don't use meta tags anymore because this can be very deceitful (you will have to care only about the major search engines - everyone uses Google or Yahoo!).

Instead they search your page for keywords frequency. You'd better use divs instead of tables because the spider might get stuck in there and you don't want that. You may write with bold characters important words, but do NOT exaggerate. Use h1, h2 tags to structure the information (I mean the titles, subtitles). You should write a context-like title which means you don't have a title for all pages on that site, but rather a descriptive title for each page.

You should use fewer images for sensitive information, such as the menu. Try to use divs to position text in front of an image, rather than having the text into the image.

There are so many optimization techniques, but you should not try to mess with the engines (like hidden sentences, keywords within the page that are invisible to visitors or not related to the page).

Another workaround is subscribing to many search engines and web directories. The more you are linked to, should rank you higher in search engines. Your web site it's like a pop star, it becomes more popular if it has more fans, and more people know it.

Also, you should consider URL rewriting if you have dynamic pages that have many GET parameters. The search engines don’t really them, or the users. It should be enabled by your web server. This Apache module (I’m not sure if other server solutions support such option) lets you virtually rewrite URLs of your pages in such a way that contains keywords from the page and this can be very useful.

Here is the Apache documentation for the URL Rewriting module:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/1.3/misc/rewriteguide.html

Here is an overview for the URL Rewriting module:

However, if you simply want listings in the mentioned directories you should go to:

http://www.google.com/addurl/

https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit
(You must sign in or register to access the page)
