Create multiple accounts with different file access permission. If you are an admin on your computer, give all the privileges to yourself and restrict accesss to other accounts only to certain actions and software executing.
To create a user account
1.Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click User Accounts.
2.On the “Users” tab, click Add.
3.Type a name for your user account, your full name, and a description for your account.
4.For Windows XP Professional only: Type the domain name, and then click Next, if your computer is set up as part of a client/server network. If your computer is set up as an individual computer (without a network) or in a peer–to–peer network, you don't need to provide a domain name.

You need to make another user or have a guest user. this function is so others using the computer don't change all your settings. and as long as your files are not in shared folders then the other persons wont be able to access them, same with favorites. set up another account and try it with limited access and admin rights. and use a password

you should just delete the files instead of hiding them. You really have no need to keep them.
