After your keyboard has suffered a lot of use, you may notice that one or more keys fail to make good contact--you might need to press a key harder (or press the same key two or more times) for it to respond. This almost always indicates that a mechanical key switch has been fouled by dust and debris, which has settled into the keyboard over time. To correct the problem, you can clean between the keys with a can of compressed air. You may also need to gently remove the key cap (use a paper clip bent into the shape of a "U") and spray a little electrical contact cleaner into the problem key(s). Work each key for a bit and then replace its cap. Remember to put the caps back on the right keys!

The only option is really to replace the keyboard. You can ask any store that sells computers about this, or you should contact Dell, and they can tell you more about replacement. I almost had to do this for my laptop too.
