Work hard. Get an education. That would be the only way I would know to prove something like this.
This is not just something you prove once and it's over. This is something you will have to prove to yourself and your family everyday.
You shouldn't have to prove you are not going to be like your older brother. They should realize you are a good person, and your own person. But if you want to prove it to yourself, than this would be the only way I would know to do that.
Learn from your older brother's mistakes. Don't make the same ones.

I don't know if this is what you mean, since it's usually the father's footsteps a boy is expected to follow, but what it boils down to is not so much proving yourself at the out set, but making a really tough decision. The choice is to do what the family expects and enjoy their support, or do what you want to do, and perhaps lose that support all together. It can be a really crappy deal. It's just how badly you want to follow your own path.
PS If what you want to do is become a soldier of fortune or a professional scuba diver, I'm on your folk's side.

personal questions are fine...
just keep up the good work in school and life in general. don't be afraid to take risks, though....you will probably regret it later if you keep yourself from doing something that seems "too risky." You sound like a good enough kid with a good head on your shoulders. continue on the same path. let your parents know: "I am not ____. I am ____. Just because HE made mistakes does not mean that I am going to follow in his footsteps. I know the difference between right and wrong, and I want to do something better with my life. All I need from you is for the two of you to STOP doubting my abilities in doing the right thing and START supporting my ambitious goals."
good luck

dont worry about what other think. make a path for yourself. i had this problem with an older sister. i made myself known by choosing a different college, joining different clubs, studing different things and having different hobbies. We are different in everyway, but i was in her shadow a lot til after hightschool. make yourself and your preferences known. if you dissagree with something ur bro does or like something else speak up. and if its a bad path that ur brother is on that u dont want to follow, set goals for yourself and achieve them as best at you can, dont put ur self in a situation that would lead to a future you do not want. anything is attainable if you try hard enough. hope this helped

^5's,,,,good man, you're on the right track. Do the following:
1)Read a book on HOW to write a business plan.
1.5)Make a list of how YOU define success!
1.75)MAKE SURE THAT YOU INCLUDE GOD, HOWEVER YOU IMAGINE HIM TO BE. Normally God goes into the first position-but in this case, you need the outline of the thoughts FIRST then to make it happen.
2)Sit down and write a complete business plan that applys to your life.
2.5)Make a list of things you need to overcome- then modify your plan to accomplish these things.
3.) Women in general are dream killers, ok? No kidding- women want kids, and a stable life, and they WILL kill your plans. So don't date seriously, don't have any girlfriends, just do casual dating.
3.5)ALWAYS USE A CONDOM- WOMEN LOVE BABYS AND THEY'LL WANT YOU TO PAY FOR THEIR KID.
Good Luck, Larry the Orc
PS- Chose friends that will be a postive, not a negative influence

Be a good, kind, honest person, stay out of trouble and in school or go back to school. Do what makes you happy, enjoy and live life because it's way too short. Have or make for yourself what you would consider a good life. Love, laugh, dance and live like there was no tomorrow.

You dont have to do things with the intention of proving to others that you are better than your brother, but u can do things that uplift you and make you feel good about yourself and others looking on will see that u are on the right track.

If you want to prove that you can succeed, finish high school, go to college, graduate, get a master's degree and go buy yourself a week's worth of nice dress clothes with two or three pairs of dress shoes. Go back to your parents house and show up in your new beemer with your fiancee.
They'll get the picture, so will society...

You can prove you can succeed by succeeding. Don't let anyone hold you back, and stay focused. Your family will see all the hard work you do & will know that you are your own, successful person.
