My daughter back in January had to have her appendix out. The Dr who did the surgery told us that the once thought of useless thing was once used by the cavemen to digest the bark and the woody veggies in there diet. Seeing how we don't eat bark any more, we have no use for it. What usually causes your appendix to go is something just gets stuck in there and it gets inflamed and out it has to come.

Most experts think that it is a useless leftover from olden times, but I believe there is no useless organ. I believe that the appendix secrets protective mucus for the large intestine.

It isn't used for anything. It is an uncessary left over that remained with us as we evolved as a species. It serves no purpose.
