Depends on what you want to do with the high speed. If you are a gamer, you should connect the modem directly to your computer and not share the bandwidth with other users, let them get their own lol. But generally, even if you are a big time downloader/uploader, a router is a good idea. Routers allow for multiple computer to use the Internet at the same time, usually with no noticeable difference for general use. And yes there are wireless and hard wired with cat5 cable. For heavy downloads or gaming, wireless is not recommended, but for simple web surfing wireless is fine. I use a Linksys router with a Motorola cable modem. Both are great brand names. I've had the router for probably 4 years now, and all i had to do was upgrade the firmware once, and should be able to use it for many years ahead. If you get a cheap modem from your service provider, you can always go to a computer store, best buy, micro trend etc and purchase your own modem. All you have to do is look at the back of the new modem and call the isp, tell them the MAC address and they will energize the new modem. Its really pretty easy, but you may not need to worry about that. I would not recommend a hub though, as that acts kinda like a stop sign, allowing only one computer at a time to send/receive data.

Typically, I download and upload alot of data, and i share my connection with 1 other computer in the house. So when I know I can expect a large transfer of data, I will do it when the other user is in bed, or not going to be using the computer, and have had no issues. Hope this helps, take care.

The downloading % is relies upon upon 2 motives. a million) ur cache ( sparkling ur cache by using open internet thoughts) 2) relies upon on ISP. ISP will outline the connections by using giving certain downloading apeed and different is for importing %. Your 3.5Mbps ought to nicely be devided into that 2 factors(downloading+importing %=3.5Mbps) yet some ISP's will provide it dynamically as if we r doing downloading. each and each of the speed vl b used to receive and if v r importing then each and each of the speed is for importing. i imagine ur provider provider has replaced ur settings. ask him to regulate ur downloading %. earnings from the downloading. yet u cant upload that a lot % after the settings.

Go wireless. You don't have to be Tech savy, just knowledgable with how computers work.
