I think a country should want the best for its citizens and would want them to be healthy, educated and successful/productive. Education and healthcare are essential. We need to give our people advantages over other countries so we can prosper. Education will further our technologies and healthcare would allow people to live with some sense of security.
I was born and raised here in the USA, but I still do not understand many people's resistance to the idea of so-called "free" health care. It would seem essential to me, like a parent to their children, that a nation should want to see its citizens healthy and prosperous.

Absolutely not.
Nothing ever run by the government really works to the advantage of the people who truly need it.
If government run health care were so good. Why is it countries like China are quickly abandoning that concept?
Private run facilities are cleaner, more efficient and provide better care. Anything the government gets its claws into becomes less efficient and eventually too restricted. This would also create more government involvement in our lives as well. Something the majority of Americans do not want..

It is not the responsibility of the government to provide healthcare to its citizens.
The government DOES have the responsibility, however, to ensure that the information provided to the consumer is accurate and is truthful, so the individual can make the best-informed decision about their health care choices.
This will lead to lower costs, better service and enhanced innovation.
The marketplace always provides goods and services better and cheaper than the government ever could. Ask any economist or historian.

The role of government is not to provide every single need for it's people. Government exists to provide rule and order for the people within its nations borders. Do you have a job? If you do work, do you want almost half of everything you earn to be taken right out of your paycheck so that people who don't work can have free health care provided by the government? Do you want to have to wait six months to get an MRI when you need one? Or maybe you would rather continue to be in the greatest country on the planet and have world class health care available to you as long as you are willing to work for it . We have Franklin Roosevelt and his "New Deal" to thank for this whole entitlement mindset shared by so many Americans today.

Against.....It isn't the governments responsibility to provide its citizens health care.... It should regulate it so that it is affordable to everyone though. The gov't provides no benefit to running it. If you think health care is bad now...wait until the government gets its hands on it. I bet you can't name a government program that actually is working the way it was intended.
The best method would be for the government to allow you to write off your health care costs on your taxes each year.

Negative. The Government always screws things up to where it would cost too much. Privatize. The job of any Government is to Protect it's citizens, and that's all. They should stay out of Medical and Private issues.

No Way!!!
Look at any country that does this and you will find that it makes Health Care less efficent and in reality leads to health care rationing.
If you had a health condition, would you want a government employee (who is paid to control costs) deciding if you get treatment or not?

A just Government should only impliment THE LAW fairly, so that we need only to elect fair people to office not political parties who sell The LAW for power. It should protect it's citizens from invasion.

I don't think they should. They should help out, but I don't think they should be the sole source. In this county, the states should help with their own people and the feds kick in a bit, and continue with private plans. This way, not all of the pressure is put on any of the parties and less likely to fall apart financially. Unfortunately, getting anyone to agree on a strategy such as this would be impossible...
