my skin has always been kind of shiny and a bit oily but i think that is mostly because i was very involved in sports, but now i have stopped playing sports. i used to splash my face with water in the morning and then again in the afternoon. at night i would wash my face with a neutrogena cleanser? do you think i am washing my face to much. also, my mom and sister never wash their face with anything but water and they never put anything on their face and they have always had perfectly clear shine free skin? do you think if i stopped washing my face and just use only water on my face, do you think i would get shine free skin?

I don't think you're washing it too many times, but if your sister and mom don't wash as much as you do and you have the same genes and stuff as they do, why not follow their example at least for a little bit and see if it works too? That's what I would do. It's possible you will get the same results as them.

You have oily skin which is not uncommon through the teen years. DON'T use moisturizers as they will only inccrease your problem. The Nutrogena is OK, but you might want to get something specifically for oily skin. And the less make up you wear the better. Nothing you can do about his, as most of it is hormonal and will decrease with age. You may be in your twenties before you see a decrease. Use oil blotting tissues (a special tissue that blots oil from the skin) when you can't wash your face (like at school).

Understand that splashing water on your face is not washing it, nor is it getting most of the oils off of your face - only the neutrogena cleanser is doing that. Your skin produces oils at the rate that it thinks it's needing it, so if you moisturize with a non-oil based moisturizer, your skin will stop producing so much oil. You also may want to use blotting strips to wipe the excess oil off of your face during the day, and matte powder to help absorb the oil.
I know you hate it now, but when you get older, those oil producing glands will help ensure that your skin stays much softer with less wrinkles, as long as you don't tan the heck out of your skin every summer.

You can always try to do the same as your mother and sister, but you might also have a different skin type.
You could also try Arbonne products. They have a line of products called Intelligence. It's formulated to self-adjust to your unique skin type.
And you have nothing to loose, because the products are guaranteed for 45 days, if you're not satisfied, you get your money back...no questions asked.

No you just have a different skin type. But to make the shine go away you can put on some rice powder or loose foundation

I know that your skin produces oil when it is dry so if you put on a non greasy lotion after washing it then it won't produce nearly as much oil and that makes you break out way less. Best wishes

you could try to use a different product other than neutrogena cleanser it might work but if it doesn't work out then you could try to ask your mom and sister for advice on how they make their face the way it is then they can give you advice on everything they do to their faces.

I think that if you only used water the yes, you would have shine free skin. If that doesnt work you can go to your doctor and have him prescribe or suggest something for you to use.
good luck â¥
