I had to read a book called "The Things They Carried" for summer homework. The bookstores I went to were sold out, and I don't want to just read summaries. I tried looking for the E-book, but the only place I could get one is at netlibrary (which I can't log into unless I'm a college student). I'm scared because I'm in an AP class with all seniors (I'm a junior), and I don't want to look like a slacker. What do you think I should do?

The problem is that I have an in class essay due in four days. I guess this is my punishment for procrastinating!

Well, you did slack, but all great procrastinators still get stuff done, just always at the last minute while stressing out. If you still have time, the book is for sale on amazon.com -
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0767902890/sr=8-1/qid=1156623106/ref=pd_bbs_1/103-4531179-6803041?ie=UTF8
You can buy it used pretty cheap, and expedited shipping is available. Until then, just keep your mouth shut in class (if class has already started), and try to borrow a friend's copy who won't reveal your secret.

I know the feeling, but you're going to have to accept the fact that you didn't do what you were supposed to. Read online summaries and try to find excerpts from the book. If the book was supposed to be read by the first day then just try to find as much info as you can. Take notes and read thoroughly (try to understand the deeper meaning). Be attentive and you might just convince your teacher that you read. Don't fret, lots of people-even AP students- do this. If you have a chance, head to the library at school or the public one. Ask any of your friends in class for tips or whatever. I did this my senior year, don't worry (it won't kill your grade).
Good luck!!

"The bookstores were sold out" is a lame excuse. You could easily order one online from any bookstore, or you could have asked any bookstore in your town to order one for you to pick up there. It only takes a few days. Summer is over. Why didn't you ask for help earlier?

Check ebay.com or amazon for used books. It is a common book so it should be easy to find a cheap copy. Half.com might help or even freecycle at Yahoo.

you could get it from a library, im sure they would have it, or maybe borrow it from someone that has it. Or maybe you could buy it online where its actually cheaper than getting it from an actual bookstore. www.amazon.com is a good website, but u can also search it on google or yahoo. im sure ull find something

you have probably already thought of this or it is not applicable, but if anyone you know has the book, you can borrow it...
