There are nine single digit uniform numbers 1-9. Of these nine numbers, the New York Yankees have retired seven of them. The two that are not retired are worn by present Yankees. List the retired numbers and who they were retired for. Name the Yankees who wear the unretired numbers. Extra question: One of the single digit uniform numbers was actually retired for two players...which number was it and who are the two players?

Come on, man, this is not a question if you know the answer(s). You need to find a quiz site. Anyone can easily look this up on the Web.

Anyway, since I know this, I may as well go for it but, frankly, why post anything you know the answers to. What's the point?:
Retired #'s: 1 Martin, 3 Ruth, 4 Gehrig, 5 DiMaggio, 7 Mantle, 8 Berra and Dickey, 9 Maris.
Wearing "unretired" #'s: 2 Jeter, 6 Torre.
As far as your extra question, see above.

Well.....They have 17 numbers retired right now and you can assume that Joe Torre's #6 and Derek Jeter's #2 will be retired sooner than later. That leaves 80 numbers to be shared by 40 players and anywhere from 5 to 8 coaches...I think you're still a long way off. Honestly, Jeter's number is a no brainer, as is Mariano's, but what other players are close? Many fans would like to see Bernie's #51 retired, but the organization doesn't seem to be ready to commit....if not him, then how can you justify Jorge and Andy? And how can you retire numbers of guys who came to the team as free agents several years into their careers? Guys like Tex and CC are good players, but have either of them had the single impact of a guy like Reggie? Let's just say I think it's safe to say that your kids will still be watching Yankees in double-digits...

Yogi Berra wore number eight before it was retired for Bill Dickey (who played with Ruth and Gehrig), and both were great players so 8 was retired for both of them.
