I'm not too concerened about flowers, etc. I want it mainly to stop erosion. There is some grass and moss on it now,but there are bare or nearly bear areas.

Sedum sarmentosum if you've got a dry area. They like the sandy soil and do not need much water as they're succulents.

Can grow in full sun or partial shade. Bloom bright yellow flowers. VERY, VERY fast growing. Perennial to at least zone 5.

Too many of the rare and native plants are being overrun with common grasses. I suggest talking to your local garden centre and finding out what used to be native in your area that is now on the decline and planting at least some of your hillside with it. Save the planet in tiny steps!

Try any heather, it's very fast growing, and give great ground cover, it's also very low miantanence and I know you're not cnecerned about flowers but some heather do have beautiful colours.

Baltic Ivy or periwinkle are both very good but go to your local hothouses and they can advise you and let you see pictures and then you would know what appeals to you.
