If only things were that simple ! The serious answer first...Typically ! An 18 year old has proven to be able to understand the world around him (or her) self, and is able to hazard a reasonable guess as to whom should be elected for a given seat, position, etc. (I did say typically, usually. Obviously there are exceptions.) And typically, while voting; one is sober, not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It is therefore, safe to vote. Your vote will not kill a human being.
On the other hand, at 18, your physical growth has not yet completed its processes, and your young brain hasn't had much experience with alcohol. Down a few drinks, drive to the voting precienct; and you might loose control of your vehicle and kill someone else, or sadly, yourself. Then you would never get to vote ! This is not safe; a 'people' might get killed. (INTERESTING POINT:)
At seventeen, I was in the AIR FORCE, I had finished basic training; ie.,I was already qualified with the M-16 rifle... I was qualified to defend my country, but I couldn't buy a beer in Biloxi Miss. This is FACT. I understand your question, because of my past experience. Please try to understand and accept my answer; which is based upon an additional fourty years experience.

Because statistics show that binge drinking is prevolent among teenagers between the 16 and 21. Also the legal age of majority is and has been 21. Maybe we should make the voting age 21. Would that make you happier? Actually I believe the reason you can vote is because you can be a soldier at eighteen. That is the only reason.

Because, like, the people who are like in charge of making the laws, don't think that people under 21 are like old enough and responsible enough to drink.
But like, ya know, not all states have a 21 year old drinking law. Some have 18 year old drinking laws. Thank goodness where I live it's 21!!!

Too bad we're EVER old enough to have beer. And too bad those that drink beer are allowed to vote.

Good question! how come at 18 you are also old enough to enter into legal contracts and old enough to fight and die for this country but not have a beer?

Maybe because there is a limit to how much you can vote but none when it comes to beer so you end up DWI (driving while intoxicated) and smashing your parents' SUV into the front door not to mention any injuries to yourself.

As should be apparent by who we have as our elected representatives, we demand more maturity and responsibility for drinking that we place on the selection process of who runs the government.
